A Turkey Named Lucky

Former Verve singer, Richard Ashcroft, surprised the local butcher in Ledbury, Herefordshire when he popped in to buy a turkey for Christmas dinner. However, this turkey wasn't for the meal - it was to be a guest.

The 16-pound turkey went for 20 pounds and was bought as a present for Ashcroft's nine-year-old vegetarian son Sonny.

Ashcroft said: "My son has recently turned vegetarian and he said he wanted a turkey for Christmas. I travel to the butchers a lot and have definitely bought the luckiest turkey in Ledbury."

The turkey came home in a wired cage (instead of a pot) a few days before Christmas, and was named "Lucky" by the family.
