Friday Food Tips: Avocados
I love making and eating guacamole, and with Cinco de Mayo coming up thought it would be a good time for an avocado tip. If you want to use the avocado right away look for soft avocados – just give a little squeeze to tell if it’s ripe or not. If not using your avocados till a few days later, look for firmer ones and make sure to leave them out at room temperature to ripen – not in the fridge.
Steer clear of dark brown marks or sunken spots on your avocados – this could mean the avocado is not so fresh, and shouldn’t be used. And if you are making guacamole with your avocados, sprinkle a little lemon juice on your mashed avocados – this helps with flavor and will help the guacamole stay green longer.
